The Museum also displays a 155mm acrylic lens as is commonly used in small harbor navigational aids. A similar lens in a lighthouse would more typically be 300mm in size. The one pictured is the current lens in the Marquette Harbor Lighthouse. The black window on the left prevents the light from shining ashore.

Automatic bulb changers greatly minimize maintenance needs and increase efficiency.

Imprevious to weather, such lens are seeing increasing use.

Comparing this acylic lens to the Fresnels clearly show the steady march of progress in lighthouse technology. While they certainly are not as beautiful as the old Fresnels, they are far more efficient!
